IFR 3-On-3 This Weekend

First Annual 3 on 3 IFR Ringette Tournament

When:
Saturday, February 22, and Sunday, February 23, 2025

Where:
Jus Jordan Arena, Iroquois Falls

Age Groups:

  • Fun 3
  • U12
  • U14-U19
  • Bunnies

3 on 3 Rules Format

This tournament shall be governed by Ringette Ontario Sanctioned Event Rules with the following additional changes:

Team Rules

  • All players must be registered with Ringette Ontario.
  • Coaching staff must be certified.

Playing Format

  • All teams must be ready to go on the ice 10 minutes before the scheduled game time.
  • 1-minute warm-up.
  • 2 periods of 8 minutes each, straight time, with a 1-minute break between periods.
  • 1 thirty-second timeout per team, per game.
  • Teams will switch ends at the half.
  • 30-second shot clock will be in effect.
  • Flooding will occur every 3 games. 

Playing Rules

  • A maximum of 3 skaters and 1 goalie per team on the ice.
  • Substitutions occur during play.
  • At the start of each half, the play will begin with a center ice free pass.

Penalty Calls

  • The referee will notify the scorekeeper of the team and type of infraction.
  • The ring will be placed in the circle for a free pass, and play will begin on the referee’s whistle.
  • Players will change as if during play.
  • One penalty shot will be awarded for each minor penalty.
  • Two penalty shots will be awarded for each major penalty.
  • Penalty shots will start immediately after the end of the 2nd period.
  • Penalty shots to be taken by each team’s players in the order listed on the score sheet.
  • Players involved in penalty shots will assemble in the center circle and take the shot immediately on the referee’s signal.

When a Goal is Scored

  • The referee will indicate with two short whistles.
  • Play will start immediately with the goaltender’s ring.

No Tied Games

  • Shootout: The shootout will determine the winner if a game finishes tied.
    • If the game remains tied after regular play and penalty shots, additional penalty shots will be taken until the tie is broken.
    • The visiting team will take the first shot.
    • Each team will select 3 shooters.
    • If the score is still tied after the first 3 shooters, teams will continue shooting in “sudden victory” mode. The game cannot end until each team has taken the same number of shots.
  • Time clock stops only for injury.
