U14A Win Provincial A Bronze
The U14 competitive team competed in the 2022 Ringette Provincial Championships, March 17th to the 20th in Ottawa. The girls and coaching staff were ready to test themselves against the best in the province.
Their first game was against Sunderland Thursday afternoon, and the Tornadoes came out strong. They scored on each of their four first shifts. Sunderland was able to get back in the game and make the game competitive. The game finished 9-2 for Timmins.
Timmins played their second game Friday morning against Whitby and their offence was on display. The girls played a great game giving the Tornadoes their second win of the tournament.
The Tornadoes third game was a competitive one. They played Gloucester Cumberland (GCRA) from Ottawa and the match was closely contested. GCRA’s pressure was on display during the game and Timmins needed to rely on their skating to escape the pressure. A strong passing game and a determination to win got the Tornadoes past their opponents with a 8-5 win, for their third win of the tournament.
Saturday, the Tornadoes played their 4th and 5th game playing Richmond Hill and Ajax Pickering. The team was able to secure both victories with a 8-1 and a 6-2 win to go undefeated in the round robin play.
On Sunday U14 Timmins Tornadoes played the Dorchester Dragons in the semi finals. The Dragons got off to a quick start scoring two quick goals. The Tornadoes managed to score but the Dragons answered right back and added another goal before the end of the period leading 4-2. The Tornadoes stormed back and was able to tie the game. With 2.9 seconds left in the period, the Dragons in the offensive zone threw a “Hail Mary” lifting the ring into the air which managed to cross the goal line giving the win to Dorchester. The Tornadoes were crushed but needed to prepare for the bronze medal game.
With the bitter taste still in their mouths, the Tornadoes came out strong against Sunderland in the bronze medal game. They dominated on the ice not giving Sunderland any chance to get into the game. They were able to win the game 6-2 and secure the bronze.
Through hard work and dedication, the Timmins Tornadoes were able to finish off their season on a high and win the 2022 Ringette Ontario Provincial bronze medal. Go Tornadoes!!!
