The U16A Timmins Tornadoes participated in their second tournament of the year in Whitby during the holiday break.
In their first game the Tornadoes played Great Sudbury. Unfortunately, Timmins lost to their northern rivals by a score of 8 to 5. In their second game, the U16s played Forest, one of the best teams in the province. The Tornadoes made too many mistakes and lost the game 4 to 1.
After a good night’s rest, the U16s played another top team of the province, West Ottawa. The game was back and forth with both teams having the chance to win. With an overall team effort, the Tornadoes tied West Ottawa 2 to 2. In their final game, Timmins played the Sault Ice Hawks. The Tornadoes jumped out fast scoring quickly, but the Ice Hawks didn’t give up an inch. At the end of the first period the game was 1-0 for Timmins. In the second period the Tornadoes came out fast and strong and overwhelmed their northern rivals with a final score of 4 to 0.
The coaches, staff and parents are proud of the players perseverance and their never give up attitude. Now the U16s are preparing for their next tournament in February in Guelph with their eyes set on Provincials in March. With hard work and determination, the U16A Timmins Tornadoes have a chance to shine in the second half of the season.
