U19A Tornadoes Compete At Provincials

Timmins Tornadoes U19A attended Ringette Ontario Provincial Championships this past weekend in Waterloo, where the top 10 teams in the province played a 5-game round robin vying for the top spot in the province.

For game one Timmins was up against the Guelph Predators. Guelph got off the first 2 goals of the game, but Timmins fought hard and leveled out the score with 2 goals of their own by the end of the first. Timmins was unable to keep up the stamina in the second period, Guelph score 5 goals resulting in a loss for Timmins, 2-7.

Game two Timmins went up against the Dorchester Dragons. Dorchester got off the first goal with 14:44 remaining on the clock. Timmins answered back hard scoring 4 goals in the first. Dorchester came back with 2 goals of their own ending the first period with a score of 4-3 Timmins. In the second period Timmins and Dorchester played defensively, resulting in no more goals for either side ending the game with a 4-3 win for Timmins.

For the third game of the round robin Timmins was against the Metcalfe Hornets. Timmins hit the ice hard playing an offensive game scoring 4 goals in the first period. In the second period Metcalfe scored their first goal of the game with 11:27 remaining on the clock. Timmins answered back with another goal at 7:58 on a power play. Metcalfe was able to get one more goal in but it wasn’t enough and Timmins came out with a win 5-2.

Game four saw Timmins facing the Gloucester Cumberland Devils. Unfortunately, Timmins was heading into this game a player short as their captain sustained injury during play the day before. Gloucester Cumberland scored the first 2 goals of the game but Timmins was able score a goal on a power play with 0:48 remaining in the first. In the second period, Timmins leveled out the score with another goal at 14:17 on the clock. Timmins was unable to hold off Gloucester Cumberland and they scored 2 more goals in the remainder of the game, resulting in a loss for Timmins 2-4.

The last game of the round robin, Timmins was up against the Kitchener Wildcats. Kitchener got off the first goal only 34 seconds in which was quickly answered by Timmins. Kitchener was able to score 2 more times ending the first period with a 2 point advantage. Timmins came back in the second period fighting. They scored one point with 10:56 on the clock. Kitchener was able to score again on a power play with 3:55 remaining. Timmins answered with a goal at 2:16 remaining. In the final minutes of the game Kitchener received an intentional Delay of Game penalty awarding a penalty shot to Timmins. Timmins scored on the penalty shot ending the game in a tie 4-4!

Timmins fought hard but ultimately placed 6th in the province. This wasn’t the outcome Timmins had hoped for as they had headed into provincials with 3 tournament gold medals this season; but the TRA, their coaches and bench staff as so proud of these athletes for their dedication, effort, and sportsmanship they displayed this season.
