Timmins Tornadoes U16A attended Ringette Ontario Provincial Championships this past weekend in Waterloo, where the top 10 teams in the province played a 5-game round robin vying for the top spot in the province.
For game one Timmins was up against the Gloucester Cumberland Devils. Timmins started out strong scoring the first 2 game goals with 13:33 and 10:13 on the clock. With 5:30 left in the first Gloucester Cumberland scored their first goal of the game. Timmins scored a 3rd goal in the first period at 1:31 but Gloucester Cumberland was able to get one in the net with 0:01 seconds on the clock. Period two Timmins was unable to keep up their advantage, Gloucester Cumberland scored 2 more goals before Timmins could return with a goal of their own tying up the game. Unfortunately, Gloucester Cumberland knocked out 3 more goals in the last 5 minutes of the game securing a 7-4 win over Timmins.
Game two of the 5 game round robin was against the Paris Thunders. Timmins scored the first goal of the game, but was unable to keep up the momentum and Paris scored 2 of their own in the first period. In the second period Paris was able to sore once more with 12:07 remaining on the clock. Timmins answered with a goal of their own at 11:33 minutes remaining. The remained of the period Timmins held the pressure but Paris was able to score one more goal with 0:54 remaining on a power play securing a 4-2 win.
Game three against Metcalfe Hornets saw Timmins hold their own with a 3-3 tie. Metcalfe scored the first game goal with 6:10 remaining in the first period and Timmins was able to answer their goal with 2 of their own. Period 2 Timmins scored another goal with 10:19 on the clock but they were unable to hold their advantage as Metcalfe scored 2 more goals ending the game in a tie.
For game four Timmins went up against Barrie Blizzards. Timmins played a strong offensive game scoring 6 goals in the first period. In the second period Timmins scored 3 more goals before Barrie was able to get one in with only 2:01 left on the clock. Timmins answered Barrie's goal with one of their own with 1:17 on the clock resulting in a 8-1 win over Barrie.
For the final game of the round robin, Timmins faced Forest Xtreme. Forest was able to get the first goal of the game with 6:30 remaining in the first period. Timmins leveled the sore with a goal at 2:51 remaining in the first. Forest got in the first goal of the second period but Timmins answered back with one of their own tying up the game. Unfortunately, Forest was able to get one in with 3:35 remaining in the second period resulting in a win for Forest 3-2.
Timmins fought hard but ultimately placed 8th in the province. The TRA is proud of these athletes, coaches, and bench staff’s efforts. Their dedication to the game, display of sportsmanship and hard work is admirable.
