TRA Teams Do Well In Nepean

Timmins Tornadoes U12A, U14A, U16A and U19A teams attended their first tournament of the season hosted by the Nepean Ringette Association, November 15 - 17, 2024.   The U14A and U16A teams came away with some hardware!  We can’t wait to see what all of these teams will bring for the remainder of the season!

The following is the recap for each of the teams that attended.

U12A

The U12A division was a 3 game round robin. Game 1 Timmins went up against West Ottawa Danielsen. West Ottawa started strong, gaining the first game point with 9:47 on the clock in the first. Timmins was able to shake off their first game jitters and came back scoring the next 3 goals at 6:48, 5:51 and 0:20 in the first period. The beginning of the second period started with a back and forth with both teams fighting hard. West Ottawa was able to get in a second goal with 6:03 remaining the second. Timmins answered back with a goal of their own at 5:00 remaining. Ottawa West scored another goal with only 1:11 on the clock. And with a nail-biting finish Timmins scored with 0:56 on the clock which was answered back from Ottawa at 0:44 left in the second, which wasn’t enough to defeat Timmins. The game final score was 6-5 for Timmins. 

Game 2 Timmins was up against the Gloucester Cumberland Devils. Gloucester got of the first goal of the game with 10:57 in the first period. Timmins played strong keeping the pressure and securing a goal of their own with 1:05 remaining in the first. The second period was a tough back and forth with both teams vying hard for a win. Gloucester scored their second goal with 3:23 left in the second period. Timmins wouldn’t admit defeat and kept the pressure, scoring their second goal, tying the game with 1:05 remaining. Both teams played hard until the final buzzer but were unable to score ending the game in a tie 2-2. 
 
The final game of the 3-game round robin Timmins went up against Nepean Ravens Piecki. Timmins played hard but Nepean was able to get 3 goals off in the first period at 12:19, 2:54, 2:17. The second period Timmins was unable to keep up with Nepean’s home ice advantage and Nepean scored 5 more goals at 14:51, 12:05, 6:55, 5:23, 3:50 in the second. The game finished with a loss for Timmins 0-8. 
 
The Timmins Tornadoes U12A team did not advance into the semifinals, however, they played very well for their first tournament of the season. It was the first competitive tournament for many of these payers at this level and they showed great talent and sportsmanship. These players and coaches should be proud of their accomplishment. We can’t wait to see what this team will bring for the remainder of the season!
 

U14A

The U14A team competed in a 4-game round robin. Timmins was up against Oshawa for the first game. Timmins hit the ice strong scoring their first goal with 14:45 on the clock. Oshawa answered back with a quick goal at 14:17 on the clock. Timmins played offensively for the remainder of the game securing the next 12 goals ending the game in a win for Timmins 13-1.
 
Game 2 Timmins was up against Aigles de Montréal-Nord. Montréal started strong scoring the first game point with only 14:12 on the clock. Timmins didn’t let the quick goal rattle their composure and scored the next 3 goals in the first period at 12:32, 1:47, and 0:59 remaining in the first. In the second period, Timmins kept the pressure, scoring 2 more goals at 10:27, 9:00 minutes left in the second period. Montréal was able to secure on more goal at 6:33 remaining, however Timmins kept the pressure to the end, ending the game with a 5-2 win.  
 
Game 3 of the 4-game round robin, Timmins went up against Ottawa Ice Gore. Timmins hit the ice strong, scoring the first 3 goals in the game at 8:15, 5:25, 4:00 on the clock in the first period. Ottawa Ice was able to sneak a goal in at 2:00 minutes left in the first period, which was quickly answered back by Timmins. In the second period, Timmins kept the pressure, scoring another 2 goals at 11:50 and 8:25 on the clock. The remainder of the game was a fast back and forth between teams with no more goals. Timmins ended their third game with another win 6-1.
 
The fourth and final game of the round robin was against Pointe Claire. This was a quick paced game with Timmins securing the first game point at 12:06. Point Claire got on the board with the next goal at 9:25 on the clock in the first. Timmins kept the pressure and scored one more goal before the end of the first at 1:06. Timmins got in a quick goal in the start of the second period at 14:34 and one more goal at 10:03. Timmins and Point Claire played a quick back and forth for the remainder of the game with no more goals. Timmins secured their 4th win with a score of 4-1 securing their place as 1st going into the semi-finals. 
 
For the first and fourth place semi-final game, Timmins was up against Ottawa Ice-Gore for a second time in the tournament. Ottawa Ice came out strong gaining the first game point at 10:26 in the first. Timmins kept the pressure and secured their first goal of the game at 9:02 in the first period. Ottawa got off their second goal with 1:01 remaining. In the second period Timmins stayed strong scoring 4 goals at 11:08, 8:37, 5:28, 4:26 and kept Ottawa Ice out, securing a 5-2 win and moving onto the finals. 
 
For the finals Timmins was up against Ste. Julie, a team they had yet to face.  Both teams hit the ice strong, and Ste. Julie got off the first goal at 8:41 in the first period. Timmins came back fighting with a quick response at 7:16 in the first. The game was a rough back and forth, but Timmins pulled out one more goal with 1:42 remaining in the first. The second period was quick and rough, Timmins was able to hold their own and neither Ste. Julie nor Timmins secured any more goals. The game finished in a 2-1 win for Timmins, securing the Gold! 
 
These players came out of the Nepean tournament undefeated and showed strength, integrity and sportsmanship.
 

U16A

 
The U16A division was a 4-game round robin affair. Timmins was up against Guelph for the first game. Both teams started strong with a back and forth game for first period with no goals for either side.  Timmins got the first goal of the game with 10:31 remaining in the second period and then scored another goal with 4:31 remaining. Guelph was able to secure one goal with 1:15 left on the clock but it wasn’t enough, and Timmins secured the win 2-1.
 
For the second game in the 4-game series, Timmins faced Richmond Hill. Timmins came out strong securing 2 goals with only 14:33 and 14:18 on the clock in the first half. Timmins got another goal on a power play at 2:04 remaining in the first. Timmins kept the pressure, scoring another goal at 12:41 in the second period. Richmond Hill was able to answer that gaol with their first and only goal at 12:28. Timmins secured 2 more goals at 4:40 and 4:24 coming out with a win 6-1.
 
Game 3 Timmins was against the Nepean Ravens. The first period was rough, but Timmins was able to secure the only goal of the period at 13:05. In the second period, Nepean secured a goal at 10:22 on the clock.  Timmins was able to secure the final goal of the game at 5:43 remaining. Even with the home ice advantage for Nepean, Timmins kept the pressure and secured a win 2-1. 
 
The fourth game Timmins was up against Metcalfe Hornets. Timmins was able to secure a goal early on at 13:16 in the first. It was a quick back and forth game and Metcalfe scored at 6:06 remaining in the first. Going into the second period with a score of 1-1 both teams kept the pressure resulting in no more goals for either team ending the game in a tie 1-1, securing Timmins a spot in the semi-finals sitting in 3rd place. 
 
In the 2nd vs 3rd semi-finals, Timmins was up against West Ottawa. They hit the ice strong getting 2 quick goals at 13:48 and 12:26 remaining in the first period. West Ottawa answered back with a goal of their own at 12:17 remaining in the first. Timmins came back fighting, securing 2 more goals before the end of the first at 5:43 and 3:52. In Period 2 West Ottawa was able to get one more goal in at 10:55 remaining which was answered by Timmins with the final goal of the game at 8:29 left in the game. Timmins came out of top with a 5-2 win securing their spot in the finals. 
 
For the finals, Timmins was up against Ottawa Ice Falconer. Timmins played strong securing the first game point at 12:38 in the first. Ottawa Ice quickly answered with a goal of their own at 11:35. Ottawa ice secured their second goal at 4:23 remaining in the first. In the second period Timmins hit the board first with a goal at 10:34 but Ottawa Ice was able to get 3 more goals in at 8:36, 6:56, 6:17. Timmins answered back with a goal at 6:02 remaining. Ottawa ice got in one more goal at 2:50 remaining. Timmins was down but not out, they fought hard scoring 2 more goals before the end of the game at 2:37 and 0:54 but it didn’t prove to be enough, and the game ended in a loss for Timmins 5-6. 
 
The Timmins Tornadoes U16A Team played well, displaying determination, skill and sportsmanship and came out of the Nepean tournament with a Silver Medal!
 

U19A

 
Our U19A team competed in a 4-game round robin. Their first game was against the Nepean Ravens. With home ice advantage Nepean came out strong securing the first goal at 10:52 on the clock. Timmins quickly answered the goal with on of their own at 10:42. It was a quick back and forth game, but Nepean was able to get in one more goal in the first period at 3:25. Nepean scored the only goal in the second period at 10:42 remaining. Timmins played hard and kept the pressure but was ultimately unable to catch back up and the game ended in a loss for Timmins 1-3.
 
Game 2 Timmins was against West Ottawa Frechette. West Ottawa got off the first goal of the game at 9:41 in the first period. Timmins kept the pressure and was able to secure their first goal at 4:05 remaining in the first. Ottawa West got in another goal with 2:41 left in the first. In the second period Ottawa scored another goal at 10:25 on the clock. Timmins quickly answered with a goal at 9:59. West Ottawa got one more goal at 4:17 putting the score at 4-2. Timmins kept fighting right to the end and was able to secure one more goal at 2:43 remaining but it wasn’t enough, and the game ended in a loss of Timmins 3-4.  
 
Game 3 Timmins played Metcalfe Hornets Cochrane. Timmins came out strong and it was a back and forth game with the first goal of the game for Metcalfe with 0:42 remaining in the first. Timmins held their own and answered back with a goal of their own with only 0:25 remaining. In the second period, Timmins kept the pressure, scoring 2 more goals at 13:21 and 4:58. Metcalfe was able to score in the final seconds of the game at 0:09 but it wasn’t enough, and Timmins came out with a 3-2 win!
 
The last game in the round robin, Timmins was up against Gloucester Cumberland Devils Dearing. Timmins fought hard securing the first 2 goals at 12:59 and 7:05 in the first period. Gloucester was able to get on the board with a goal at 1:06 left in the first. In the second period Gloucester scored 2 more goals at 9:11 and 8:25 remaining. Timmins came back with a goal of their own at 7:05. Gloucester kept the pressure scoring another goal at 5:21 remaining. Timmins answered back tying up the score with a goal at 3:21 remaining in the second. Unfortunately, Timmins couldn’t hold out Gloucester and they were able to get one more goal with 1:04 left in the game, ending the game in a loss for Timmins 4-5.
 
Timmins Tornadoes U19A did not advance to the semi-finals, however they worked hard and displayed great determination and sportsmanship.
