The weekend of November 22-24 saw the GSRA host their Greater Sudbury Ringette Tournament and Timmins Ringette was represented in 4 divisions, FUN3, U12B, U14B and 18+ !
The FUN3 division team participated in a 3-game round robin. Their first game was against the Walden Ring Devils, Kerckhoff. Walden started strong while Timmins worked through their first game jitters where Walden was able to secure 5 goals on Timmins at 14:08, 12:46, 12:29, 10:51, 6:05 on the clock. Timmins found their footing with 5:01 remining in the first and scored getting them on the board. Walden answered back with another goal at 2:32 remaining in the first.
The second period Timmins came back strong working as a team and keeping Walden out and scoring the first goal in the second period at 4:09 remaining in the game. Timmins played hard, but Walden was able to secure one more goal at 2:25 remaining in the game. The game ended with a loss for Timmins 2-8.
With first game jitters gone, Timmins hit the ice for game 2 against Greater Sudbury, Lafortune scoring the first goal of the game with 13:29 remaining in the first period. Sudbury kept the pressure and scored 2 goals of their own at 12:18 and 11:29. Timmins didn’t let Sudbury’s advantage get to them down and played hard scoring 3 goals at 11:01, 8:15 and 5:08 remaining in the first. Sudbury scored one more goal before the end of the first period at 1:18. In the second period, Timmins came out strong, scoring at 13:50 which was quickly answered by Sudbury at 13:10. Timmins played well scoring 4 more goals at 11:52, 10:01, 6:15, 3:47 on the clock. Sudbury came back scoring another goal with only 2:26 on the clock that was answered by Timmins with another goal with only 0:13 left in the game. Timmins came out with a win 10-5.
The third and final game of the Tournament, Timmins was against West Ferris. West Ferris hit the board first with a goal at 13:32 and 7:32 on the clock. Timmins didn’t let a strong start from West Ferris get them down, the played hard getting on the board with a goal at 5:37 remaining in the first. West Ferris answered back scoring at 5:02 and 4:24. In the second period West Ferris kept the pressure scoring 2 more goals at 12:11 and 11:42. Timmins came back with a goal at 7:39. Unfortunately, Timmins was unable to keep West Ferris out and they scored 2 more goals at 6:42 and 5:38 remaining. Timmins Fun 3 played hard, but the game ended in a loss for Timmins 2-8.
Timmins Fun 3 did not advance to the semi-finals, however these young athletes worked hard and displayed great sportsmanship in what was the first tournament experience for some on this team. They should be proud of their achievements, and we can’t wait to watch them develop throughout the season.
The U12B squad also face a a 3-game round robin. Their first game was against Greater Sudbury, Cuomo. The teams played a back and forth game with Sudbury getting first on the board with a goal at 7:48 on the clock. Sudbury was able to score again with 3:56 remaining in the first. Timmins answered back with a goal at 2:32 left in the first period. In the second period, Timmins was unable to keep the pressure and Sudbury scored at 11:20, 8:30 and 7:47 on the clock. Timmins was able to hold out Sudbury for the remainder of the period ending the game in a loss for Timmins 1-5.
For their second game, Timmins was up against Greater Sudbury Diotte. Sudbury was first on the board with a goal at 7:58 but Timmins answered back with two quick goals at 6:57 and 6:05. Sudbury scored one more goal with only 0:10 left in the first period tying up the game. The second period both teams kept the pressure with Sudbury scoring fist at 10:06 which Timmins answered with 2 goals at 6:13 and 5:41. Sudbury scored another goal tying up the game with only 3:39 remaining. In a nail-biting finish, Timmins scored once more with only 1:28 left on the clock but they were unable to keep Sudbury out who got another goal at 1:15 ending the game in a tie 5-5.
For the final game of the 3-game round robin, Timmins faced Greater Sudbury U12B. Sudbury started the game off strong scoring with 14:26 on the clock. Sudbury kept the pressure scoring again at 7:42 and 6:55. Timmins came back getting on the board with a goal at 3:04 left in the first. In the second period, Timmins was unable to keep up the stamina and Sudbury scored 5 goals ending the game in a loss for Timmins 1-8.
Timmins did not advance to the semi-finals, however these young athletes showed determination, sportsmanship and team great spirit. They should be proud of their accomplishments, and we can’t wait to watch them develop throughout the season!
Timmins 18+B team competed in a 3-game round robin. For game 1 Timmins was up against Greater Sudbury, Diotte. Timmins came out strong scoring the first goal with 13:48 remaining in the first. Sudbury quickly answered back scoring 2 goals at 12:38 and 11:14. Sudbury kept the pressure, scoring again at 6:25. Timmins didn’t let Sudbury keep the advantage for long, they came back with 2 quick goals at 5:09 and 4:16 left in the first. Sudbury was able to sneak in one more goal with only 0:01 left in the first period, tying up the game. Period 2 Timmins dominated, scoring 2 quick goals at 14:42 and 14:21. The remainder of the game was a quick back and forth with Timmins scoring the final goal of the game at 3:54 ending the game in a win for Timmins 6-4.
Game 2, Timmins faced the Walden Ring Devils. Timmins started strong, getting the first goal at 13:28 on the clock. Timmins kept the pressure and scored a second goal at 5:57 in the first. Walden was able to get on the board with only 0:58 remaining in the first. In the second period Timmins held nothing back, scoring 2 more goals at 11:20 and 8:05 before Walden could answer with a goal of their own at 7:45. Timmins played offensively, scoring 4 more goals at 7:16, 6:48, 5:06 and 4:33 before Walden had a chance to get one in at 2:26. Timmins scored one more goal at 2:15 remaining in the game ending with a win 9-3.
The final game of the round robin, Timmins was against Greater Sudbury, Tocholke. This Sudbury team was strong, scoring the first goal at 12:38 in the first. Timmins scored the second goal of the game getting up on the board at 9:44. Sudbury answered back with 2 goals at 8:20 and 7:19 before Timmins scored again at 5:03. In the second period, Timmins played well but was unable to keep Sudbury out who scored 2 more goals at 14:40 and 9:15. Timmins took the next goal with 8:54 remaining in the second. Sudbury took 2 more at 8:20 and 6:00 minutes left in the game. Timmins held strong and answered back with another goal at 5:49 but Sudbury got the final point of the game at 2:29 ending the game in a loss for Timmins 8-4.
Timmins moved into the semi-finals and were up against Greater Sudbury, Sohm. Timmins started strong, scoring the first goal at 11:29 on the clock. Sudbury answered back with their first goal at 7:11 remaining in the first. Timmins kept the pressure and scored the next 2 goals at 4:11 and 0:23 left in the first. In the second period, Timmins scored 5 consecutive goals before Sudbury had a chance to answer with 2 goals of their own. Timmins scored again with only 3:21 remaining in the game which was quickly answered back by Sudbury at 3:11. Timmins played hard right to the end, scoring again with 0:46 on the clock. Timmins won the semi-final game 10-4 and moved onto the finals.
For the finals, Timmins faced Greater Sudbury, Tocholke, a team they lost to earlier in the tournament. Timmins played with determination and scored 3 goals right off the start at 13:06, 12:20 and 12:04 before Sudbury had a chance to answer with 2 goals on their own at 11:29 and 10:22. They played a quick back and forth game until Sudbury scored another goal, tying up the game with 2:53 remaining in the first. In the second period both teams played well, but Sudbury was the first with a goal at 8:08 on the clock. Timmins kept fighting and came out on top scoring not 1, not 2 but 4 more goals before the end of the game securing a win 7-4, coming home with gold!
These players represented Timmins well, displaying determination, teamwork and great sportsmanship. Congratulations!
A group of U12’s from Iroquois Falls and U14’s from Timmins joined together and entered a team into the U14B division of the tournament and the 3-game round robin. For their first game they faced West Ferris, both teams starting out strong with a back-and-forth game. West Ferris was the first on the board with a goal at 7:14 remaining in the first. Iroquois Falls answered back with 2 goals of their own at 6:12 and 3:30. West Ferris scored again at 1:41 on the clock but Iroquois Falls got another goal in with only 0:19 left in the first. In the second period, Iroquois Falls came out strong, scoring 3 goals at 12:31, 10:42 and 10:00 on the clock. West Ferris scored one more goal with 5:10 remaining in the second period but it wasn’t enough and Iroquois Falls took the win, 6-3.
In the second game, Iroquois Falls was up against Greater Sudbury, Lefrancois. Iroquois Falls kept the momentum from their first game scoring the first point at 8:17. Sudbury got on the board with a goal of their own at 4:46. Iroquois Falls answered with 3 goals at 3:28, 3:17, 2:25. Sudbury kept the pressure and scored 2 more goals before the end of the first period at 0:47 and 0:26. In the second period Iroquois Falls played strong keeping Sudbury’s efforts out and scoring 3 more goals at 2:47, 2:16 and 0:57 on the clock ending the game in a 7-3 win.
The 3rd game on the round robin, Iroquois Falls faced the Walden Ring Devils. The first period was a fast paced back and forth with Timmins scoring the first goal at 9:52 followed by a goal from Walden at 6:26. In the second period Iroquois Falls scored a quick goal at 13:30 which was quickly answered by Walden at 12:05. Iroquois Falls played hard and scored 2 more goals at 10:31 and 10:08 gaining a lead over Walden. Walden answered back with a goal at 8:43 remaining in the second period but Iroquois Falls fought hard and scored another 2 goals at 7:14 and 6:47. Walden then scored another goal at 5:57. Iroquois Falls still playing strong scored with 3:20 remaining which was quickly followed by another goal for Walden at 3:01. Iroquois Falls kept the pressure until the end, scoring the final goal of the game with 1:32 remaining in the second period, securing a win 8-5 and a spot in the semi-finals.
In the semi-finals Iroquois Falls faced the Sault Ice Hawks. Iroquois Falls came out fast scoring the first goal at 14:45 on the clock. The Sault was strong and played an offensive game scoring 5 goals in the first period at 11:15, 10:26, 7:24, 6:32, 1:15. In the second period, Iroquois Falls kept their spirits up and fought hard. Sault scored 2 more goals at 14:09 and 11:03 before Iroquois Falls got one in at 10:48. Sault scored again at 10:37, but Iroquois Falls kept the pressure and scored at 5:13. Sault scored one more goal with 3:52 remaining resulting in a loss for Iroquois Falls 9-3 in the semi-finals.
These athletes from 2 associations and across 2 age groups came together and displayed amazing teamwork, determination and sportsmanship and should be very proud of their hard work.
